Arete — Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Arete is a self-development mobile application published by Spectroniq Limited("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Arete, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data.

By creating an account and using Arete, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect

Account Information

• Email address
• Username and display name
• Password (stored as a one-way hash — we cannot read it)

Profile & Onboarding Data

• One-year vision and life mission (text you write)
• Faith background preference (used to personalise spiritual quests)
• Equipment access (e.g. gym, running shoes — used to personalise physical quests)

Activity Data

• Daily quest completions, start and end times
• XP earned, rank, streaks, and gems balance
• 28-day quest history

Device Data

• Expo push notification token (to send you quest and streak reminders)

Leaderboard Data

Your username, display name, total XP, and rank are visible to all Arete users on the World Ranking screen.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To create and manage your account
• To generate personalised daily quests based on your pillars, faith background, and equipment
• To track your progress — XP, streaks, rank, and quest history
• To send push notifications: a daily quest reminder (1 AM) and a streak reminder (9 PM)
• To display the global leaderboard
• To send password reset emails when you request them

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share it with third parties except as described in Section 4.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following services to operate Arete:

• Cloud infrastructure — our backend and database are hosted on a managed cloud provider. Your data is stored on their servers under our control.
• Expo / Apple / Google— push notifications are delivered via Expo's notification service, which routes through Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) infrastructure. Your push token is shared with Expo solely to deliver notifications.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account), all your data — including XP, streaks, gems, quest history, and profile information — is permanently and immediately erased. This action cannot be undone.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Delete your account — at any time, from within the app (Settings → Danger Zone).
• Access your data — email us and we will provide a summary of what we hold about you.
• Opt out of notifications— via your device's notification settings or the toggle in Settings.

7. Children

Arete is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it immediately.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top. Continued use of Arete after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For significant changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice.
